2018 Development Roadmap

Another new year, another development roadmap for the year ahead.  Most of our planned 2017 upgrades were successfully carried out and implemented, with a few hiccups along the way as our more regular users were great in highlighting and reporting to us.  We hope you all have reaped the benefits of the new features.

So, what to expect in 2018?  More third party integrations are at the top of the list, particularly with parts suppliers, but also with other online services that may be relevant.  We hope to move on this soon, within the next few weeks to get the ball rolling.  This will be part of a larger upgrade to our inventory system and tracking, which will bring many new features such as invoice-level profit reporting and many other exciting new developments.

In the near future we will be offering live chat customer support, and customers on our unlimited plans will be able to message our support team directly. We will roll out live chat support to other customers for an additional monthly fee later in the year.

Online payments are another area we are looking at in a big way, and the adoption of cryptocurrencies as a payment method both for our software and for you to get paid from your customers.  We anticipate this generating much interest, and we are waiting a little while for the markets to settle, we will be option for a high-speed transaction currency, at the moment Ripple is most suited to this, but the tech changes fast.

Other plans for this year include revising the VIN decoder and providing better data sources for this information. More reporting and cost analysis is on the way too along with useful information on shop performance and profitability, these new features will make your auto repair shop more efficient, part of these upgrades will involve a smoother flow through the system as work is being carried out.

Many of you will be happy to hear that a full upgrade is planned for our Android app, to iron out the bugs and bring it up to date with latest version of our web app. We still currently hold no plans for iOS development as of yet.

NEW: Parts ordering from online services

We are happy to introduce more improvements and refinements to our Inventory management.  As always, you could add your own vendors and use the automatically created inventory from the parts you use on your invoices, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a simple one click access to the most popular online sales vendors to directly order the parts you need too? Of course it would!

Now when you go to add a  part in the Inventory, you will be presented with a list of nearly a dozen reputable online trade parts stores for easy re-ordering.  It is worth noting placing an order on these sites will not update your Auto Repair Bill inventory, as these sites do not offer the integration options to third party apps, we are talking to Worldpac however to see if we can integrate with them.

We are aware there are primarily USA based suppliers, if our European customers are interesting in adding to this supplier list we are happy to and encourage you to send us your requests please.

NEW: Use local Inventory for autocomplete

Our autocomplete feature saves a lot of time but the list has grown and has many duplicate entries as our user base has grown.  We recently added improved local inventory support, and are now taking this a step further.  You can still choose to use the global list to build your local inventory, as you select parts they will be copied to your local inventory.

Other updates include being able to completely switch off global autocomplete and manage your stock independently. In this case any new parts added on an invoice, or on the Inventory screen, will be added for use in your local inventory and autocomplete.

If you are using the global autocomplete and stock management, you need to ensure you are selecting the corresponding part that has previously been added to your local inventory, admittedly this can get confusing, so it may be easier to decide on using global and switching it off after Inventory is built up with your most used parts.  The global list will still be useful to new users.

NEW: Updated record storage for historical data

Many requests from customers have been to store historical mileage data on invoices.  This was previously managed by the vehicle log, and did not maintain a historical mileage record on individual invoices. This has now been changed so that all mileage information is now stored per invoice individually at the time of invoice creation.

We will be adding this to quotes and repair orders soon also.

Another aspect of our auto repair software we are looking at giving an overhaul is our inventory system, which is getting a review also, and we will be introducing a more feature rich tracking of cost of sales and profits on parts, other features we are considering here are part purchase dates. As always please get in touch with any suggestions you may have to improve the experience!

NEW: Improved inventory and markup on parts

We are happy to bring you even more functionality to our inventory and  parts sub system, you may notice on invoice creator that you can now add the markup percentage you wish to apply to a given part.

The Inventory system of our auto repair software has been updated to efficiently handle multiple markup options, you can enter a markup for part in your inventory that will be automatically applied when you invoice out that part from stock.

It is also possible to set a vendor markup rate, applying this markup rate to all parts from this vendor when a part is invoiced.

Upcoming updates will provide stock reporting on Inventory in PDF format for stock taking or general review.

NEW: Parts & Inventory Management

It is now easy to manage your suppliers, parts and stock.  You can set your stock levels, and these will be updated when you create an invoice. You can manager your vendors and suppliers here also.  Parts you have used previously, and add from now on will appear in your inventory, you can choose to create vendors and update the listed parts with the appropriate vendor once you have created a few vendors to work with.

You can also directly email your auto repair parts supplier directly from the app, and send an email ordering more parts.  This is something we intend to automate in the future, i.e. notifying you when stock levels with a vendor have reached, or are approaching zero. Along with this we are building an automated parts order document, listing the parts, quantity required, and for your own benefit, showing you the cost of parts you need to order, this order sheet can then be emailed or printed. We hope to have this new feature of our auto repair invoice software ready in the coming week or two.
