Bug fixes: Android app login and online bookings

Many of you have recently been inconvenienced by not being able to login to our auto repair Android app, and we apologize greatly for this and the length of time it took to sort out.  It turns out in the end the problem was when we upgraded our servers to use only secure connections, while the mobile app was still trying to connect with an unsecured connection, which was failing every time an action took place from the app. This has been resolved now and appreciate your patience.  There were also technical issues in getting the update published to Google Play, but you should see the update available on your phone later today or tomorrow.

We also noticed another bug in our external bookings system used by auto repair shop customers to accept bookings from their customers, actually the reverse is true, this bug is what clued us in to the Android app issue! The links on the invoices have been updated, so customers can once again make bookings with your shop directly online.

A lot of bugs have been stomped recently, and we always welcome the feedback we get  from our customers on both bugs and ideas for new features and improvements.

2018 Development Roadmap

Another new year, another development roadmap for the year ahead.  Most of our planned 2017 upgrades were successfully carried out and implemented, with a few hiccups along the way as our more regular users were great in highlighting and reporting to us.  We hope you all have reaped the benefits of the new features.

So, what to expect in 2018?  More third party integrations are at the top of the list, particularly with parts suppliers, but also with other online services that may be relevant.  We hope to move on this soon, within the next few weeks to get the ball rolling.  This will be part of a larger upgrade to our inventory system and tracking, which will bring many new features such as invoice-level profit reporting and many other exciting new developments.

In the near future we will be offering live chat customer support, and customers on our unlimited plans will be able to message our support team directly. We will roll out live chat support to other customers for an additional monthly fee later in the year.

Online payments are another area we are looking at in a big way, and the adoption of cryptocurrencies as a payment method both for our software and for you to get paid from your customers.  We anticipate this generating much interest, and we are waiting a little while for the markets to settle, we will be option for a high-speed transaction currency, at the moment Ripple is most suited to this, but the tech changes fast.

Other plans for this year include revising the VIN decoder and providing better data sources for this information. More reporting and cost analysis is on the way too along with useful information on shop performance and profitability, these new features will make your auto repair shop more efficient, part of these upgrades will involve a smoother flow through the system as work is being carried out.

Many of you will be happy to hear that a full upgrade is planned for our Android app, to iron out the bugs and bring it up to date with latest version of our web app. We still currently hold no plans for iOS development as of yet.

As always, stay tuned for updates here on our blog, facebook and twitter.

Auto Repair Bill app login issues

We are received a large volume of requests regarding our Android app not being able to login customers.  The issue has been identified now, and a fix will be rolled out as promptly as possible. We would like to apologize to our customers for this inconvenience, it would appear only some phone models/android versions are affected, this does make it more difficult to fix but we anticipate a release before the holiday season.

In the meantime, we advise our customers to use the web app on their mobile until this can be resolved fully on the native app.  We noticed issues also in accessing the service from mobile devices using Chrome, and this has been resolved now, please find that the login on website on a mobile device is accessible by clicking Menu at top of homepage, and selecting Login.

We are currently experiencing a high volume of user signups and our systems are getting a little strained, we will have everything back to the smooth service you are used promptly. Some aspects of our system need to be scaled better, and it is aimed to be completed by the end of the month.

Android app updates

We have added several new features to our Android app, the licence plate scanner with Carfax integration has finally been released and is quite cool folks!

We have added a lot of useful features in Work Order management. You can now add photos to a work order directly from the app and view and manage on web app. The tick icon will bring up the signature screen for the customer to sign, and the new camera icon allows you to take pictures and upload for use in the web app.

Work orders can now also be digitally signed by customers, they can sign on-screen, and the signature will be placed on the work order PDF, to either digitally store, or to print for record keeping.  Aside from convenience, this can also help your company to reduce their carbon footprint and save on printing, paper and storage costs.

We have  a redesign in the works to modernize the look of our app and we are considering a port for iOS later this year.

Android App licence plate scanner

Our Android app had been neglected for some time due to an issue with our licence plate scanner, which thankfully has now been resolved.  We are happy to introduce the new plate scanner which will scan a plate, read the number, then once you select the State, it will attempt to auto fill VIN, Make, Model and Year, all to save you a little more time everyday! We think this will make our mobile app a more useful compliment to our web app when it comes to incoming new clients.

You can now directly dial or send a text message, or email to client from the app on the view client screen.

Other general bug fixes have been applied, including updated permission handling for Android Marshmallow, we are also working on a general redesign which will be on the way shortly too.

We are looking to add service history checks to mobile app also, but we will first need to check with CarFax terms if this is okay to do.

NEW: Updates to Invoice & RO Editor

We have started on our upgrades in response to the feedback from our recent user survey, the participants of which we wish to thank again for time to let us know what is right, and what is wrong!

We will be rolling out a stream of minor upgrades over the coming weeks to improve user experience and address some highlighted bugs that have crept into the last release, and also preparing for a major upgrade scheduled for this summer.

In the meantime, we have made some revisions to the current invoice editor, and quote editor, which now shows the Parts/Labor totals at the end of the editor without tax, then the tax line and then final amount, we all admit here that it does look a hell of a lot damn clearer! Seeing this from our customer’s perspective certainly helped out here.  The new format editor better separates out tax, labor, parts and total while making out the invoice, the printed invoice remains unchanged with this update.

New Invoice Editor Update

On the R.O. side, we have added the much requested Repair Order document to include a customer sign-off line, this is now present on all Repair Orders, but we plan to make this optional in Settings soon for those who may not wish to display, for the moment it is now standard on all R.O., you do not have to use it, but there will be an option to remove it for those who do not with to display signature line.

R.O with signature line

In our upcoming update to our Android app, we plan on adding ability for customer to sign-off on a repair order using finger signature on screen of device, our mobile app is currently held up due to an issue with our licence plate scanner we are also adding to upcoming update.

Many more changes are on the way, including the most requested to have multiple labor lines, this is a major upgrade to the underlying systems and will take careful planning and testing before release, but we have begun work on this and aiming for release of this much requested ability sometime this summer.

NFC Time management for mobile app

Time management and billing accordingly can be a hassle, and all of us forget or lose track from time to time.  As it is, we have covered this in many areas of our automotive invoice software, with the existing Repair Order management screen, for clock in/out on PC, along with our android app for clocking in/out on the go.

NFC for time management? We are considering adding this to our app, you can use stickers, keyrings, wrist bands, lots of different ways to clock in/out!

And wouldn’t it be easier to simply tap your phone against a sticker to clock in and out?  The one disadvantage foreseen here is that for NFC to work, it is usually on the back of the phone, and hence the phone needs to be removed from any casing to make contact with the NFC surface, we welcome your thoughts on this issue in the comments?

Easy time management, Repair Order clock in/out

Repair Order clock-in and clock-out is available on web app and our smartphone app for auto repair invoicing.

After you create a new RO, you can manage from RO dashboard on web or phone, or alternatively printed RO’s also have a QR code, that can be scanned to check in.

Below is the web app RO dashboard.  The green clock is to clock in to RO and begin work, this will update to the current time, similarly the red clock out icon clocks out and marks the current time.

Also, you can use our mobile app to clock in and clock out, by select Work Orders from the app navigation:

Additionally, printed copies of RO’s are available with barcodes that can be scanned to clock in/out.
