Date & time localization

newsettingsloval

We are happy to roll-out proper date/time localization, due to many requests to alter the default display format of the date on printed/emailed documents.  We have also added the ability to set your preferred timezone.

Current options for the date allow for US and UK standard formats of MM/DD/YYYY and DD/MM/YYYY repectively.

Your timezone gets detected automatically when you sign up, but in some instances this is not accurate, e.g. if your computer clock is not set to right time, then you can now easily manually correct this and select the zone you want to use.

The corrected timezone feature allows for more accurate timing across the board, from correct timings on clock-in/out for Repair Orders in the right time zone.  Bookings will now be guaranteed to be in the right time zone also.

You can find both these new options in the Settings page under System Settings in our auto repair shop software.

AT&T on mission to get every car online

LAS VEGAS — AT&T’s mission to connect every car on the road keeps rolling.Untitled

The United States’  second-largest wireless carrier said on Thursday that it had signed a multi-year deal to provide a cellular connection to Jaguar Land Rover’s vehicles. AT&T said it began offering a wireless connection to Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models this month. AT&T Mobility CEO Glenn Lurie is set to talk about the deal in his keynote address at the CTIA Wireless industry trade show later today.

It’s the latest win by AT&T, which has aggressively pushed to add a wireless connection to several major auto makers, including General Motors, Audi, Tesla and others. AT&T sees connected cars as alternative growth engine as its core smartphone business starts to cool down amid mounting industry competition.

Like other connected car deals, AT&T will provide a cellular connection to power Jaguar Land Rover’s navigation and suite of apps, as well as provide a Wi-Fi hotspot for its cars. Passengers with smartphones or tablets could ride on that Wi-Fi hotspot.

Personal security

AT&T also said it was building upon its Digital Life security service by offering a Personal Security app, offering monitoring services and support on the road.

The app allows customers to trigger a one-click alert to contact a Digital Life security-monitoring center in case of an emergency. The security center will be able to dispatch emergency services, as well as provide additional information such as specific medical conditions like allergies.

Users can also opt to let the monitoring center view live audio and video of their condition to get a better sense of the situation. You will also be able to set a timer that will trigger an alert unless cancelled, which might provide someone with an extra measure of comfort when walking through a dark, deserted parking lot.

There’s also a messaging feature that allows people to alerts with status updates along with location information, as well as a mapping feature that shows your location and the location of your family members.

AT&T will offer the service as a free trial to existing Digital Life subscribers starting in November.

NEW: Check labor rates by ZIP code

We are glad to announce the arrival of labor rate lookups. You can look up your local labor rate by ZIP code in the United States.

You can currently find the labor rate calculator in the Settings screen under System Settings. In the coming weeks we plan to introduce automatic labor calculations for repair orders and invoices, this will be done using a system setting, which can be the local labor rate for your ZIP, or a value you may wish to decide yourself.  You will also have the option to override the default labor on any document if needs be.

We have also added the option to show or hide your TAX ID on display for invoices.  Other minor additions to settings include ability to remove QR codes from repair orders from documents on our auto repair shop software.

We have now made it easier to see at a glance the most recent repair orders for a vehicle, and also conveniently edit, view or clock in and out for an RO, all from the  client dashboard.

On a side topic, another frequently requested feature for our auto repair shop software has been to calculate labor rates; we are looking into this and hope to have a solution in the coming weeks, it will implemented for US customers and will use data from Edmunds Developer Network to apply their suggested labor rate for your ZIP code. More details on this to follow, so stay tuned folks!

NEW! Add images to Repair Orders

Once again in response to user requests, we are responding with one of your latest requests.  Many people had noted two issues with the RO Writer, the lack of ability to edit an RO, and no option to upload photos  to attach to RO. We have addressed both these issues now. Another refinement to the RO Writer in our auto repair shop software is auto-prediction now also works for labor items, and not only parts alone, as was the case until now.

You can now easily revisit, edit, and update an RO as you carry out your work. The photo uploader is fast and flexible, and there is no limit on how many photos you can upload for a repair order.  We will be updating our mobile app in due time, to allow photos to be taken with our app and directly uploaded.  For the moment the web app can take photos by clicking Add Files on the Repair Order writer page, on Android, clicking this button will allow you to select the device camera to upload an image.

Please see the short video below to see how easily you can attach images to a new or existing Repair Order:

NEW: Vehicle spec lookup and service history checks

We have added new features to the homescreen that allow you to quickly and easily look up vehicle spec data, or service history using just plates, VIN, or even make, model and year.

You can do this without needing to first create a new client, so if  a new customer comes into the shop, you can immediately and easily lookup the service history and spec on that vehicle using the plate number or VIN.  These new tools in our auto repair shop software also offer a valuable source of reference data for sourcing parts or knowing the exact model of a vehicle, as well as records as work carried out, and other valuable information, e.g. recalls or write offs.

The following short video shows the new features in action:
